Income accounts typically share the following characteristics:

• Investments that pursue income can be thought of as loaned investments.
• As an income investor, you are loaning your money to a person, a business, or a government entity.
• The person, business, or government you loan your money to is expected to pay you interest on the loan and to repay the loan amount in full when it is due.
• Bonds, issued by governments and businesses, are the most common income investments.

TYPICAL INVESTOR PROFILE

Income options are generally the most conservative investments. If you are approaching retirement, or are in retirement and are now more concerned with safety and investment security than you are with potential investment growth, you might be an income investor. Some investments that pursue income are more aggressive than others. Some investments seek stability of principal and safety while others pursue higher current income but expose investors to greater fluctuation in their principal.
