TARGET
RETIREMENT INVESTMENTS - NEW YORK
Target retirement
accounts typically share the following characteristics:
- Investments that pursue growth and income generally
divide dollars into a mix of bonds for income and common
stocks for growth
- Target date accounts are designed and managed around
an approximate retirement year (e.g. 2025).
- As an investor grows older, the account automatically
becomes more conservative by increasingly allocating assets
to pursue income.
- Provide investment diversification, exposure to multiple
asset classes and automatic rebalancing to maintain the
appropriate ratio of stocks and bonds.
TYPICAL
INVESTOR PROFILE
Target retirement
accounts are usually more risky than income accounts but
less risky than growth accounts. They tend to appeal to
investors who appreciate the benefits of investment diversification,
asset allocation, and automatic rebalancing but are too
busy or lack the expertise to personally manage their retirement
assets. Investors must be comfortable with the target retirement
account's current asset allocation as well as the allocation
at retirement.
