SentryWorld started as the pioneer of destination golf in Wisconsin. Recent renovations and continued upgrades keep it on the best-of awards list.
When former Sentry® Insurance CEO John Joanis developed plans to construct SentryWorld® in the early 1980s, he envisioned Wisconsin’s first destination golf course—a cutting-edge recreation complex where residents and visitors would feel welcome.
Legendary golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Jr. made that dream a reality, calling the completed parkland course his “Mona Lisa.” The course attracted numerous professionals and celebrities in its first incarnation, including Arnold Palmer and Betsy King. A key element in making SentryWorld a memorable experience is the iconic No. 16 “Flower Hole.” Still drawing rave reviews today, the hole features a mosaic of 30,000 flowers that changes in design every year.
Pete McPartland, current Sentry chairman of the board, president, and CEO, spearheaded major renovations to the course and overall complex beginning in 2013. Jones Jr. returned to help shepherd the course changes.
Creating the “Augusta of the North”
Jones Jr. and course architects Bruce Charlton and Jay Blasi recognized an opportunity for wholesale, course-defining change. SentryWorld reopened in 2015, revealing a suite of changes to the complex and representing a master class in golf course construction. Jones Jr. described the renovated course as “The Augusta of the North” in 2019.
The changes caught the attention of the USGA, and SentryWorld proudly hosted the 71st U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship in 2019. Hosting that event aligned perfectly with our dedication in helping the next generation of female golfers learn, play, and enjoy the game.
Adding to the legacy
We continue to enhance the experience for our guests by adding an on-site boutique hotel in spring 2021—The Inn at SentryWorld. Sitting just off our championship golf course’s 18th fairway, the hotel will feature more than 60 rooms and is perfect for a play and stay combination. Be our guest, and you’ll enjoy Wisconsin-style hospitality at its finest.
