The gift recognizes officers’ response to a nearby workplace shooting
Sentry Insurance and its employees contributed $37,000 to the Middleton Police Department’s effort to develop a K-9 team. The gift recognizes the department’s response to a recent workplace shooting at a software company in Middleton.
“We’re grateful for the quick and professional response of the police officers near our Middleton office on September 19,” said Pete McPartland, Sentry’s chairman of the board, president, and CEO. “The heroic efforts by the responding officers ensured the safety of our employees and others in the area. I have no doubt their swift response saved lives and prevented additional injuries.
“We know the department wants to create a K-9 team, and we believe a contribution to this program is an appropriate way to say thank you.”
Sentry’s specialty auto and motorcycle insurance operation, Dairyland, is based in the building adjacent to the shooting and was in lockdown during the event. No Sentry employees were injured during the shooting. Sentry has had operations in Middleton since 2005.
The donation includes a $25,000 gift from Sentry and an additional $12,000 comprised of contributions from employees that was matched by the Sentry Insurance Foundation.
“In the few weeks that we’ve been back, we continue to process what happened and support one another,” said Pete Anhalt, president of Sentry’s Middleton-based Personal Lines business unit. “Through it all, there’s been an overwhelming sentiment that we want—and need—to say thank you. We’re proud to be part of the Middleton community and believe a K-9 unit will be a tremendous benefit.”
