The Sentry Tournament of Champions helps further our commitment on Maui
Our role as an engaged corporate citizen—at home and on Maui—is a responsibility we take seriously.
After the 2021 PGA TOUR Sentry Tournament of Champions, the tournament distributed a record $526,760 to local Maui charities, continuing the event’s long history of charitable giving. To date, the tournament has generated more than $7.5 million for community charities since it moved to Maui in 1999.
Since becoming the Sentry Tournament of Champions title sponsor in 2018, we’ve followed our company philosophy of focused giving when allocating funds raised for charity during the tournament. We focus on education, workforce development, quality-of-life initiatives, and community-based human services.
With each year, our conversations with local leaders have helped us further identify areas of need. We believe the most meaningful way to fill those needs is to support charitable organizations that understand Maui at a regional level.
The 2021 list of local recipient organizations includes:
- Boy Scouts of America
- Friends of the Children’s Justice Center
- Hale Makua Health Services
- J. Walter Cameron Center
- Ka Lima O Maui
- Lahainaluna High School Foundation
- Lahaina Junior Golf
These organizations are critically important on Maui. The cost of living in a tourism-based economy is very high. It poses many challenges to community members, many of whom face difficulties—even with assistance from community organizations.
After recognizing the COVID-19 pandemic would make these challenges more difficult, we donated $200,000 to the Maui United Way as part of a $1.07 million commitment to organizations across the nation in 2020. We have since furthered our support by contributing an additional $25,000 to the Maui United Way in 2021.
Together, with the help of local organizations, we’ll continue helping those on island in the years ahead. It’s our commitment to Maui and its communities.
