Sentry rated A+ for 25 years in a row

A.M. Best rating takes into account Sentry's strategic focus and financial strength

Stevens Point, WI – Sentry is once again rated as one of the financially strongest mutual insurance companies in the United States. For the 25th straight year, A.M. Best, the leading insurance company rating agency, has rated Sentry A+ (Superior). Less than 15% of U.S. based insurance companies are A+ or better – even fewer have been listed A+ or higher for 25 years.

When determining financial strength, A.M. Best looks at prior year results, along with the next year–s forecast. It takes into account the strategic focus of a company, and whether or not they have achieved their stated goals. In reaffirming the A+ rating, A.M. Best points to Sentry–s sustained operating earnings, diversified product offerings, strong risk management culture, and depth of management experience and expertise. Additionally, it notes Sentry–s improved underwriting efforts during the past five years.

“I am extremely pleased that Sentry’s management and associates carry on the legacy of Sentry retirees in building a company that continues to grow and demonstrate exceptional financial stewardship,” said Pete McPartland, Sentry chairman of the board, president and CEO. “We are most fortunate to be headquartered in central Wisconsin, which provides a fertile field for recruiting talent and a great place to live and raise a family.”

The ranking is a great benchmark for companies looking to purchase insurance. “They want to know their insurance company is able to pay their claims, if the worst happens to their business,” said Dewey Gantz, Sentry chief financial officer. “Additionally, when businesses seek capital to grow, banks often require their insurer have a high A.M. Best rating.”

A third reason for insuring with a highly rated company is customers who bid on construction jobs, or contract with a national supplier, often find more open doors when backed by a strong insurer.

A.M. Best, based in Oldwick, New Jersey, is recognized as the insurance industry’s leading rating authority.
